(just the right of firmness)Turned it back on, thelens recovered and camera Memory card lockedThe SD memory card, SDHC memory card, SDXC memory card or Eye-Fi cardâ€™s write protect tab is set to "LOCK". I was able to repair it by firmly rapping the extended lens (lens facing down) into the palm of my hand several times.Thanks again and good luck.
I myself have never had it happen on any of my G-series cameras and I have both the G9 and the G12, but I have read about it happening to others. I held it upside down and sprayed it which is just like blowing in lubricant with force. I didn't have any problem with mine or my G9 or G10. For those that need help, this is who we used: www.camerasandparts.com They were excellent! They are excellent, your best bet since you have a Canon. But I think you are safe with a G12. Not the answer you're looking for?
I am quite disappointed that there seems to be an inherent problem with the lens mechanism. I am still struggling to get the lens together even with photos lines drawn across the parts etc. Get this...dropped it in the river! WEll, I just tapped the top (face) of the lens gently against the table and it worked...!!!
Replaced the batteries and it retracted the lens. trying to fix it, but no luck so far.....
