After that my camera was able to turn on. Powering the camera off and back on would reset the zoom, but only until zooming in again... Many camera makers will not honor repairing this problem under warranty as they claim it is due to impact damage to the camera, or sand or debris getting into the lens But I noticed there was a small gap and the lens was actually crooked when I sat it down.
i have a canon powershot sd1000.my sister dropped it a couple inches on the lens while it was still retracted. Only consider this fix as an absolute last resort before tossing the camera, as there's some obvious potential for further damaging your camera by using this method. This should hopefully work. it is working again. None of which worked. Check This Out When you looked at it the lens "hole" was sideways and it would not retract completely inside the camera.
So I used the "Press gently on the lens" fix. But you mention that you want the pictures from your camera.
